Great Question! You’ve finally found the cake that you want for your event and you’ve got an awesome cake decorator that is going to make it for you. You guys go over the details and then you receive the amount that its going to cost to make the cake. And you are a little sticker shocked! You wonder why it costs so much to make a custom cake. After all, its just flour and sugar right?
Although flour and sugar is used, much more goes into making your vision become a reality.
With custom cakes, you’re getting a one-of-a-kind cake. There is a lot that goes into a custom cake and I would like to explain what some of those are and why it should matter to you! There are cheap cakes, but they are NOT CUSTOM made cakes.
- Time
Depending on the scale of the cake, cake decorators could spend, on average, more than 20 hours customizing and perfecting a cake order. Each of our customers receive a 3D sketch of their cake so that we can visually be on the same page. Here at Blue Sky Treats we put time into consulting and designing specific decorations in order to make your special cake unique to your celebration.
- Cakes are not just flour and sugar
Though flour and sugar is the foundation of any cake, the taste is a direct reflection of the quality of ingredients used. Here at Blue Sky Treats we use gourmet chocolates to bake and dip treats in. We make our own high quality fondant which makes a big difference in the taste and texture of the cake. But one of the most overlooked cost of custom cakes are the special equipment and molds that are needed to bring your edible creation to life.
- Level of skill
Besides all of that, there is also a level of artistry and experience you are getting. We have trained cake artist that have invested in their craft and learned from some of the best in the industry today. The skill, precision, and neatness that you see portrayed in our work isn’t by luck. It’s what we have trained to do!
